Day 243/366

Does it even matter if there is a hunger or not? When the clock strikes 8 p.m, my stomach is just attuned to eat a lot anyway. It's the same case in the morning for breakfast. Well, it's not the case for lunch because eating rasam-chawal day in day out is not the most appealing thought.

It's a worse case with dessert. In this city, there are 5 different houses that belong to different members of my family in the same neighborhood. It's not wrong to assume that this kind of closely knit community means means a lot of meals. And even if it's just a simple dinner, there will be dessert. And you will be forced to eat it because it will be put on your plate whether you're aware of it or not. And so, you will have to eat it. It's disgusting. I'm sure I'll be a diabetic if I go on this way. Worse, my weight is never going to come down. It's hard enough to try and make time for exercise because of my work timings. This is just ridiculous.

Sigh. Such is life. With all it's food and glory.

Day 201/366

A crispness in the air,
Of fresh basil and walnuts.
The garlic smelled so strong
Through the window it did come.

My nasal instincts took over me.
My legs took me to the food.
There she stood chopping
With her invisible chef hat on.

Unofficial taster of the meal
Best unpaid position ever!
The boons of ready-made munchies-
No high person will ever forget.

Day 49/366

The Dominos pizza delivery boys,
Are not how they are in movies,
They're not who you want to ask to come inside,
No puns intended here, smarty.

You know they're nerdy and bored,
Wearing that silly red uniform,
Their cap is never facing back,
They're not cute guys getting food to your dorm.

And yet they always bring a smile to my face,
For it is the sign that the food is here,
Two slices of cheese burst pizza later,
I burp and take another sip of beer.

Day 16/366

An ode to South Indian food
If a rava dosa doesn't tingle your taste buds,
Let appam and stew do it's thing.
With special chutney by your side,
Your meal is a definite #win.

The rasam-chawal combo never fails,
Nor does puliyogare, ghee and podi.
But an absolute must with all the meals
Is a cup of filter kaapi.

A glass of butter milk always helps
To digest the heavy sambar.
But once the payasam is consumed,
There's really no space for more.

Day 10/366

My Perfect Subway
I start off with the cheese,
Then "Not toasted, please!
Put all the veggies,
But go easy on the peas."

I ask for extra jalapenos,
And my sauces three:
Mayo, cheese and mustard,
"I need more mayo, please."

Wrapped up around the paper,
My Subway awaits me,
4 packets of ketchup poured out
I am on ecstasy.
